The Jack Lovell Fellowship
The fellowship has been set up to celebrate the life and honour the work of our colleague and friend Jack Lovell, who died in January 2024.
The fellowship aims to help develop early career researchers through tailored mentorship and practical work experience.
It is a fully funded award that will be offered to one early career researcher from a low or middle-income country, every year.
About Kivu International
Kivu is an international development organisation that specialises in supporting locally-led policy change.
We believe that policy that is developed and owned locally - not imposed from the outside - has a longer lasting and more positive impact.
That’s why we support local partners to inform and influence policy, and work with governments to strengthen policy development and implementation.
Over the past decade our work has delivered significant policy change in a wide number of low to middle-income countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
What the fellowship includes
- A month-long placement with Kivu International in London
- On the job experience of our project-based or ongoing work
- Personal mentorship from the Kivu team to support skills development
- A customised agenda of meetings and events with policymakers, think tanks, academics and more
- The costs of your flights, accommodation, food, and local travel fully covered
Jack’s Impact and Legacy
Jack’s impact upon Kivu was immense. His empathy, insight, and emotional intelligence suited him perfectly to our complex and sensitive work.
Jack was never happier than when working with early career researchers from cultures different from his own. It is this passion that has inspired the focus of the fellowship.
How to Apply
Kivu is working with target countries and local partners to identify the first Jack Lovell fellows.
In the future, we will welcome applications from early career researchers, economists, and analysts from low or middle-income countries.
